Bhangra on Mondays (6:30-8:00 pm)

Bhangra is traditionally a vivacious and energetic harvest dance from Punjab, India performed at the time of the Vaisakhi festival. Today it is danced at weddings and celebrations as well. Traditionally a dance for men, with women dancing a form called giddha, today bhangra is danced by women and men, and people of all ages.

Bollywood on Thursdays (7:45-8:45 pm )

Imagine yourself in the middle of a vibrant Bollywood movie, shaking your hips and shoulders to invigorating Bollywood songs! Learn a variety of dance styles that come together to create a vivacious Bollywood choreography, including Indian folk and classical dances, hip hop, West African, dancehall and more. Class begins with a thorough and energizing warmup, followed by a break-down of an upbeat Bollywood choreography, all in a fun and supportive environment! All levels are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to sweat! Bare feet are suggested but supportive footwear is fine as well.

West African Drumming on Thursdays & Sundays

Thursday: 6:30-8:00 pm
Sunday: 10:30 am to 12:00 noon

Bongo teaches traditional rhythms from Guinea, West Africa. Students will learn different accompanying parts for the djembe as well as solo technique. Students interested in playing dununs (the foundational drums for the rhythm, played with sticks) will have the chance to learn kenkeni, sanban, and dundunba parts for the rhythms introduced in class.

West African Dance on Saturdays (12-1:30 pm )

With live drumming!

This class focuses on rhythms and dances from Guinea, West Africa. Students will learn basic technique as well as the cultural contexts of the dances they learn. The class is open to all levels, and is especially good for those who are new to or have little experience with Guinean dance. It is also geared towards more experienced dancers who want to work on their technique and on learning steps at a moderate, and clear pace. The class is accompanied by live drumming, led by Bongo Sidibe from Guinea, West Africa. You will get a great workout and leave feeling energized and happy!
